The Konkomba Youth have protested, calling for the immediate termination of Hon. John Kwadwo Gyapong appointment as Oti Regional Minister. The protest was sparked by a trending audio recording in which Hon. Kwadjo allegedly made bizarre statements about the Konkomba people in the Oti Region.
According to the audio, Hon. John Kwadwo Gyapong claimed to have written a document in 2023 advising against the appointment of any Konkomba person to a position in the Oti Region, should the NDC return to power. He allegedly stated that Konkombas cannot contribute to the party's victory in the region.
Hon. Kwadjo also purportedly claimed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost woefully in the Oti Region due to the over-reliance on Konkombas, who were given various appointments but failed to deliver even a single seat. He further alleged that Konkombas tend to vote tribally, prioritizing their own ethnic group over other considerations.
The protesters took issue with Hon. Kwadjo's assertion that the Ewes are the majority in the Oti Region, citing his own victory and that of Hon. Geoffery Kini as evidence. However, they countered that it was actually the Ewes who voted for Hon. Geoffery and Hon. Oti Bless, rather than the Konkombas.
The protesters are demanding that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama take immediate action to address the issue. They are calling for Hon. Kwadjo's appointment to be revoked, citing his divisive statements and apparent bias against the Konkomba people.
Furthermore, the protesters are urging His Excellency to investigate the allegations and to declare any documents purportedly written by Hon. Kwadjo as null and void. They are also seeking an apology for the hurtful comments made about the Konkomba people.
The protesters warned that if their demands are not met, they will not welcome Hon. Kwadjo in any Konkomba community.
